Two Guyanese batsmen were among the top three run-scorers in the recently held Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools cricket tournament in Barbados.
Winston Forrester scored the most runs while his Top Level Academy teammate Abdool Raheem was third in the aggregate and collected a pair of batting pads for his effort.
The 17-year-old Raheem, who captains GYO at the youth level, scored 301 runs from six games and also registered the competition’s only hat-trick on his way to 15 wickets for 48 runs from 32 overs.
Despite the wonderful batting efforts from Forrester and Raheem, Top Level Academy had to settle for a semi-final spot in the 24th annual tournament which was won by Trinidad’s Queens Park Club Coaching School.
Raheem, whose hat-trick was achieved against Trinidad school Presentation College, was the leading all-rounder in the competition and his scores of his 88 against Australian school Oxley College and 66 against Dulwich College of England were high-class innings.
The young cricketer praised the organising of the competition which attracted top school teams from around the world and said the Guyanese represented their country with pride and determination.
Raheem attends the Business School in Brickdam to complement his CXC which he has already secured.
